This park near Ely, Minnesota gives visitors a similar experience to the rugged wilderness of the Boundary Waters in a more comfortable and developed state park setting. Bear Head Lake dominates the park's landscape, and thus swimming, fishing, and boating are the main recreational activities. Stay at the developed campground or one of several backpacking campsites and enjoy incredibly dark skies at night.
Since most of the park is wilderness, the trail network is small and simple in comparison to other state parks. The Norberg Lake Loop is the most popular trail in the park, taking you around a small trout lake through pine forest. For longer and more remote trails, hike to Blueberry Lake or Becky Lake.
