Beautifully positioned on the Mississippi River Bluffs in Southeastern Minnesota, this park provides excellent vistas. Hiking and sightseeing are the primary recreational activities given the lack of flat land and the steep, rocky waterfront. The drive here from the Twin Cities is short and scenic and easily done as a day trip. If you want to spend more time, stay overnight at the main campground, one of the cart in sites, or at one of 2 backpack sites.
Most hikes here are more difficult than at your average Minnesota State Park thanks to the fantastic topography. Be prepared for strenuous climbs and stairs! The Hiking Club Trail is a moderate hike that provides a sample of what the park trails have to offer. Do a loop of the more difficult Bluffside Trails for several overlooks and to see In Yan Teopa Rock. For a flat, easy hike, head to the Sand Point Trail away from the main section of the park.
