An easy day trip from the Twin Cities, this park is a great place for a break from civilization. With wildflowers in the spring and changing leaves in the fall, the scenery is beautiful all year. Camping is available on the south end of the park.
For even more adventure, cross the river and visit the larger Interstate State Park in Wisconsin.
The interpretive trail to the glacial potholes, holes carved in the rock during the last ice age, is the most popular hike in the park and great for kids to explore. Follow the River Trail for lovely cliff-top views of the St. Croix River and return on the Railroad Trail to make it a loop. You can also add on the Sandstone Bluffs Trail for a more difficult hike with stairs and hills leading to two overlooks.
